Legal Status in Greece
The WHO/Mediterranean Zoonoses Control Centre, coordinating and managing unit of the Programme, operates in Greece as an International Organization:
- Greek law no 623/1986 ratifying the bilateral convention with WHO on the MZCP Statute;
- Greek law no 1912/1990 ratifying the bilateral convention with WHO on the operation of the MZCC in Athens, Greece;
- Greek law no 471/1976: ratifying the international convention with the United Nations.
Sectors of Collaboration of the WHO/MZCC with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece
- 1997-2000: Successful implementation of human brucellosis prevention and control project in the Palestinian Territories;
- 2003-2004: Successful implementation of a Pilot Brucellosis Epidemiological Surveillance Project in the Public Health and Animal Health sectors in the Syrian Arab Republic;
- 2005-2006:
- Starting the implementation of a similar project as above in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan;
- Educating school teachers and professors on issues for protection from zoonoses and hygiene of foods in the Syrian Arab Republic, Jordan (Hashemite Kingdom of), Palestine, Egypt, Saudi Arabia (Kingdom of), Iraq, Iran (Islamic Republic of), etc., in collaboration with the educational Institution FIRDOS and the Ministry of Education of Syria.
